„The Villa without Roses“ is proud to be a new member of the artist colony on the Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt from 1899. Like its predecessor, House Christiansen, it positions itself as an opponent of House Olbrich - it quotes his neighborhood in volume, grain size and their dominant architectural elements as the perforated facades and the white plaster; it shall be understood that „the total imitating is more than stupidity and thoughtlessness“ [Bruno Taut]. The new villa show less what has made the Art Nouveau style, but more what they wanted. The distorting mirror in front of tradition and zeitgeist play a big role as the appreciation of each individual space and the design of various worlds, each independent of the other. For this purpose, the house interprets a classical element, which was a defining method in interior design till Art Nouveau - the division of the wall.
