Library & Learning Center of ETH Hoenggerberg Science City.

The site is located at ETH Hoenggerberg, on the opposite side of HIC Building. HIC Building is near HIL Building, and there is an open space among them. In front of HIL Buidling is the Bus station, it is the first stop to reach the Science City with public traffic.

Here I tried to compact the library and learning center in one building. The north facade is flat in order to give the open space a clear definition of the boundaries, and together with the HIL to define this space as a square. The square will be the first space for all the visitors of Science City. And although there are several prgramms in this building, they would share the entrance and public space. I pulled the library higher, so people can be aware of the two different spaces from outside.

In the library, I built a huge shelf with 20 meters high. In this medieval scale the power of knowledge will be deificed, and through the large area of transparent façade to radiate this power outwards. Even in the bus station, people can already feel the presence of this huge bookshelf. The traffic space of Learning Center is enlarged for staying up.
